HK FilMart: Mei Ah Boards Two From Wong Kar Wai’s Jet Tone

Hong Kong’s pay TV-to-films group Mei Ah has boarded “Drive Me Crazy,” a romantic comedy loaded with car-racing scenes, being produced by Wong Kar Wai’s Jet Tone Productions.

It will star Chang Chen and mainland Chinese actress Wang Luodan with a budget of $12 million.

Shooting will begin in mid-2015, with a release set for the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Mei Ah has secured distribution rights in Asia to another Jet Tone production, “The Ferryman,” on which Wong will be the producer and Chinese novelist Zhang Jiajia the director.

The previously announced “Ferryman” marks the first time that Wong produces for Alibaba Pictures Group, the film production arm of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba.

The cast features Wong regular Tony Leung Chiu-wai. The genre and storyline remain under wraps.

Mei Ah held rights across much of Asia to Wong’s most recent feature film, “The Grandmaster.”

Shares of Allibaba Pictures Group were suspended Tuesday, pending an announcement.
