“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” crushed all rivals at the Chinese box office on its opening weekend of release.

Data from local box office source Entgroup show the final part of “The Hobbit” grossed $49.8 million, closely in line with Warner Bros.’s estimates of $49.5 million announced on Sunday.

The three day Friday to Sunday figure represented a 56% share of the entire week takings at the Chinese box office.

In second place with $12.2 million was “20, Once Again” the Chinese-language remake of South Korean hit “Miss Granny.” After 18 days on release it has amassed $51.7 million.

Third was “The Seventh Son,” the Legendary Pictures film in which China Film Group has an investment stake. It added $9.66 million for a 10 day cumulative total of $25.8 million.

“Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb” added a further $6.26 million in fourth spot, for a 22-day cumulative of $48.6 million.

Fifth place went to “The Taking of Tiger Mountain,” Tsui Hark’s war action film. It added $3.62 million to extend its total score after 34 days to $139 million.
