Chinese detective thriller “Inside or Outside” held a press event at the Asian Film Market on Saturday, with thesps Wallace Huo (“Swordsman”) and Han Ji-seok, screenwriter ZMX Veronica, and producer-distributor Turbo Films President Jin Cai tubthumping the project.
“Inside” stars popular Korean star Jang Hyuk (“The Flu”) as an elite businessman who suspects that his wife is having an affair and teams up with a detective, played by Simon Yam (“Election”), to uncover the details. Soon, they become the target of his wife’s lover, a cunning hitman (Huo).
Turbo Films’ senior manager of international sales Annie Fung told Variety that Huo’s large fanbase in Taiwan and China is expected to help the film’s sales and box office.
According to the scriptwriter, “Inside” is a complex detective mystery with a heavy emphasis on a psychological element. “Barnum effect (a tendency to accept vague types of information as specific to an individual) is the main source of this film’s suspense,” Fung said. “Though we worked with a very young scriptwriter and producer, I believe the script was well developed and the cast was well organized,” said Cai. “The pan-Asian cast of the film will also fully appeal to the Asian audience.”
“I’ve always wanted a role that has a dark side,” said Huo at the press conference. “This hitman character with multiple personalities was definitely something I was looking for.”
The Gary Wing-Lun Mak film was made with a budget of $10 million and is expected to open very wide in China in November. China-based Turbo Films launched international sales of “Inside” at the Busan Market.
