Dustin Lancaster, the epicurean entrepreneur behind such Silver Lake scenester meccas as L&E Oyster Bar and El Condor, has gone into the boutique hostelry business with Hotel Covell, set to open Feb. 1 above the establishment that kicked off his mini-empire, the wine bar Covell.
The location — a stretch of Hollywood Blvd. situated in the nexus where Silver Lake, Los Feliz and Hollywood converge — might be the establishment’s biggest strength, given the Eastside’s dearth of quality hotels.
The five converted apartments range from an 800-square-foot, two-bedroom space to a 350-square-foot, one-bed perch. Lancaster calls the space “highly stylized,” with custom tile and cabinetry mixed with eclectic, mid-century modern furnishings. Each room will have its own personality in the manner of the Chateau Marmont.
With Covell below, Umami Burger across the street, Mother Dough a few doors down and a fashionable stretch of Vermont Avenue within walking distance, patrons will have no shortage of quality food options in the vicinity.
Lancaster envisions an “affluent, artistic, creative” clientele, leaning toward the music biz, in keeping with Covell’s regular patrons.
