Winklevoss Twins Lease Out Sunset Strip Aerie

OWNERS: Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss
LOCATION: Los Angeles, Calif.
PRICE: $150,000 per month
SIZE: (approx.) 8,000 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 7 full and 2 half bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: An exceptionally contemporary residence in the famed Bird Streets area high above L.A.’s Sunset Strip, owned by venture capitalists and former Olympic rowers Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, has come up as a furnished lease with a sky-high price of $150,000 per month

Amid much tongue-wagging by property gossips, the Teutonically chisel-chinned Bitcoin champions, best known for their much-publicized lawsuit against Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook a few years ago — they claimed their former Harvard classmate stole their idea for Facebook and eventually settled for $65 million — purchased the sleek and architecturally libidinous mansion in August 2012 for $18 million. At the time, it was reported that Tyler would occupy the premises while Cameron would remain based in New York City and that they planned to use the house as a West Coast base for their eponymous, Internet-oriented venture capital firm.

Current listing details show the glass-walled residence, perched on a pricey ridgeline with quintessential “jetliner views,” measures in at just under 8,000 square feet, with five en suite bedrooms and a total of nine toilets in seven full and two half bathrooms. Snow white, polished slab limestone floors run throughout the sprawling, interconnected living spaces that include a combination living/dining/kitchen and an office/library with custom-crafted built-in storage. The lower level, tucked into the steep hillside, includes a lounge area with built-in wet bar, an adjoining state-of-the-art media room and direct access to a six-car subterranean garage. The living/dining space and the master bedroom on the upper floor both have solid walls of glass that slide open to a glass-railed terrace with sweeping city views and an expensively engineered L-shaped negative edge swimming pool with tanning shelf.
