Tobey Maguire Flipping Out in Brentwood

SELLER: Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer Maguire
LOCATION: Los Angeles, Calif.
PRICE: $10.25 million
SIZE: 6,320 square feet, 6 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: A thoughtful public relations birdie over at real estate listing aggregation juggernaut Redfin was the first of several helpful tattletales who kindly rang our digital bell to let Your Mama know that Tobey Maguire has flipped a celeb-pedigreed property on a plum Brentwood street onto the open market with an asking price of $10.25 million.

The high-stakes poker-playing actor (“Spiderman”) and budding film and television producer (“Rock of Ages,” “The Spoils of Babylon”) and his jewelry designer wife, showbiz scion Jennifer Meyer Maguire, only purchased the double-gated property in late January of last year, via trust, for $8.45 million from Emmy-winning chat show host Ricki Lake, who herself acquired it in 2002 for $5.6 million from sitcom queen Courtney Cox.

The rambling Colonial-meets-plantation-style residence, originally designed by John Byers and built in 1949, appears to have had a cosmetic refresh since it was last purchased and measures in, per current listing details, at 6,320 square feet with half a dozen bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. A pretty-nearly jigsaw puzzle-like collection of interconnected lounges and dining spaces include formal living and dining rooms, a library/office, a sky-lit family room with vaulted ceiling and chunky exposed wood beams, and a center island kitchen with a combination of stone and butcher block countertops.

The main floor master suite has two fireplaces, a sky-lit bathroom and direct access to the backyard via a series of floor-to-ceiling French doors and windows while an especially roomy second floor guest suite has separate entrance, a stone-tiled en suite, and a private terrace that overlooks the backyard. Glass doors in the family room lead out to a covered outdoor living area that, in turn, gives way to a tree-shaded dining terrace and verdant backyard with flat, well-watered lawn, an open-air pavilion with built-in barbecue, and a stone-lined swimming pool and spa.

It’s not clear to this property gossip if the Maguires ever actually occupied the former Cox/Lake residence that anyone with eyeballs can see has been staged for sale by a high-end home staging specialist. What we do know is that property records indicate the Mister and/or Mister Maguire still own a still undeveloped 0.91-acre residential parcel they bought in early 2008 for exactly $10 million and happens to be a few doors down and across the street from the house they just put up for sale.
