Television Writer Hart Hanson Sells Malibu Modern

SELLER: Hart Hanson
PRICE: $4,500,000
SIZE: 3,903 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: According to the MLS and other digital listing services such as Redfin, a contemporary residence in Malibu that’s listed on the open market at $4.5 million and owned per property records by television writer/producer Hart Hanson has gone into escrow with an unknown buyer for an unknown amount. Property records show Mister Hanson, creator of the spectacularly successful and long-running crime dramedy “Bones” as well as the Rainn Wilson-starring police drama “Backstrom,”purchased the property in April 2005 for $2,825,000. Online marketing materials indicate the early ‘80s architectural, located up a twisty lane on an elevated, 2.6-acre perch above Malibu’s La Costa and Carbon Beach, benefits from 180-degree views and offers three bedrooms and three bathrooms between the 3,903-square-foot main house and separate guesthouse atop a detached two-car garage.

A flexible-use loft space hovers over the sky-lit and bi-level living room that features a vaulted ceiling, raised hearth fireplace, built-in bookshelves, and big windows with sweeping ocean views. The dining room, a few steps up from the living room, offers direct access to a dining deck with panoramic coastline view and opens to the spacious center island kitchen that, in addition to all the usual culinary accouterments expected in a $4.5 million house, has glass doors to a poolside ramada. The guest bedroom in the main house has custom built-in wardrobes with integrated desk and sliding door access to the swimming pool while the master suite encompasses a high-ceiled bedroom, walk-in closet, and roomy bathroom with radiant heated floor, two-person soaking tub, and glass-enclosed and tile-lined shower. An adjoining fitness/yoga room opens to a private walled courtyard with outdoor shower. The grounds include a gated motor court, a walled entry courtyard with drought tolerant landscaping and, somewhat ironically, a tiled water feature, a lounge terrace with fire pit, and a saltwater swimming pool with inset spa. Listing details show the property includes private membership at La Cost Beach Club.

Property records show Mister Hanson and his wife maintain a healthy property portfolio that includes a couple of houses in Venice — one they picked up just a few months ago for $3.5 million — as well as a couple of houses in semi-remote and sensationally scenic Big Sur, CA, one of them a two-acre, cliff top spread with 180-degree whitewater views up and down the rugged coastline.
