Rosie O’Donnell has split with Michelle Rounds, her wife of less than two years, quit “The View” — for the second time — and hoisted her gulf-front getaway south of Sarasota, Fla., up for sale, with an asking price of $5.75 million.
The famously and, arguably, occasionally too-outspoken comedian, chatshow host and entrepreneur purchased the Plantation-style property, along with much of its eclectically colorful furnishings, in only October 2013, for exactly five million clams. Current listing details show the 4,648-square-foot, three-story residence has four bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, a loft-like open-concept main living-dining-kitchen area and generously proportioned verandas and screened porches with glistening, unobstructed sunset views over the Gulf of Mexico. A house-wide loggia with lounge area, bar and barbecue station overlooks a plunge-sized swimming pool with inset spa. Beyond the pool, a broad sweep of lawn stretches out to the property’s 100 feet of beach frontage and a newly constructed boat dock.
Like her topsy-turvy professional and personal lives, O’Donnell’s real estate portfolio has been a hotbed of flux over the past couple of years. In June 2013, she unloaded a waterfront compound on Miami’s celebrity-laden Star Island for $16.5 million, and last December, after almost six months on the open market, she dumped a 3,200-square-foot terraced duplex penthouse in New York City for $9 million, which she bought just over two years earlier for not quite $8.1 million. Last June, Miz O’Donnell listed four of the five homes that comprise her five-residence, Hudson River-front compound in Nyack, N.Y., for a total of $6.15 million — but all four properties were taken off the market earlier this month.
