‘Peep Show’ Co-Creator and Producer Andrew O’Connor Sells L.A. Mansion

SELLER: Andrew O’Connor
LOCATION: Los Angeles, Calif.
PRICE: $13.177 million
SIZE: 10,300 square feet, 6 bedrooms, 7 full and 3 half bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Though the deal went down with little fanfare some months ago, we’ve only recently learned and property records reveal that British writer-producer Andrew O’Connor sold his mansion in L.A.’s coveted and high-priced Brentwood Park ‘hood after just one week on the open market for an impressive $13.177 million. The casually dressed but properly luxurious property was purchased by Mister O’Connor in May 2010 for exactly $11 million and, though the new owner’s identity is shielded behind a seemingly impervious corporate entity, ever-dauntless real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak says she’ll swear on a stack of newborn babies as high as the Empire State Building it’s prolific television producer Brian Robbins (“Smallville,” “The Royals,” “Richie Rich,” etc.).

Mister O’Connor, a former child actor and children’s magician, wrote and/or produced a slew of often magic-oriented programs in the U.K. — he frequently works with English mentalist-illusionist Derren Brown —before he went on to co-create, write and produce the cleverly idiosyncratic, long-running and critically acclaimed sitcom “Peep Show.” More recently he produced the not particularly successful romantic comedy “That Awkward Moment,” with “High School Musical” star Zach Efron, and he’s currently at work producing the upcoming CNN docu-series “United Shades of America” that aims to turn a provocatively comedic eye on a variety of American subcultures.

The clapboard sided and stone-accented mansion, which official listing descriptions rather hyperbolically described it as “arguably one of the most beautiful homes in Los Angeles,” sits behind a high hedge and electronic driveway gates, was built in 2010 on a pancake flat 0.46-acre mid-block parcel, and measures in at a considerable 10,300 square feet with half-a-dozen bedrooms, as many fireplaces, two laundry rooms, an elevator, and a total seven full and three half bathrooms. A double-height center hall entry with prom picture worthy staircase opens to a number of amply proportioned living spaces that include formal living and dining rooms as well as an entirely paneled, office/library with fireplace, 20-foot ceiling, towering wall of windows, lots of built-in bookshelves and a second floor gallery.

Less formal family quarters include a center-island kitchen equipped with every high-grade appliance and culinary convenience known to mankind, a roomy family room with bookshelf-flanked fireplace and transom-topped French doors, and an oversized informal dining area with slender wood beams on the high ceiling and three walls of large, multi-pane windows and glass doors that look out on and open to the backyard. A games room/media lounge offers substantial additional recreation space with high beamed ceiling, stone fireplace and wet bar with temperature-controlled walk-in wine cellar. Chestnut-toned wide plank wood floors in most of the main floor living spaces continue in the upper floor master suite that includes a built-in window seat, raised ceiling, a private pergola-shaded terrace, and marble bathroom with three-sided glass-enclosed shower and a two-person soaking tub set below a huge round window. A deep, stone-tiled loggia with raised hearth fireplace overlooks the backyard and swimming pool, beyond which is a detached structure that houses a two-car garage, a convenient pool bathroom/changing room, and what appears to be some upper-level square footage of unknown functionality.
