BUYER: NeNe Leakes
LOCATION: Duluth, Georgia
SIZE: 9,511 square feet, 6 bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: For most if not all of the last six-plus years and seven seasons of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” original cast member NeNe Leakes, and her first and second husband, Greg Leakes, have lived in a series of rented and what appear on the boob tube to be half-furnished macmansions in some of Atlanta’s pricier suburbs. But now, as first reported by the celebrity gossip juggernaut TMZ and confirmed with a peek and a poke around the Gwinnett County property records, Miz Leakes, who never seems to pass up an opportunity to tell any person and every camera just how very rich she is, has done dropped $2,075,000 on a not quite completed macmansion in the fancy-pants guard-gated Sugarloaf Country Club community in Duluth, Georgia, about 40 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.
Listing details describe the three-floor pile as a “Mediterranean Costal [sp] Villa” — whatever that means — with six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms in a queen-sized 9,511 square feet. Listing details go on to describe “Unique ceiling designs, arched openings, rounded corners & polished Roman vein cut travertine throughout main level.” Open-plan living spaces on the main floor were most certainly designed to impress guests and delivery workers alike with a rotunda-capped curved staircase and a wrought iron railed bridge that passes over the double-height formal living room and links the upper-level bedroom wings. The kitchen, fitted with a massive center island, is open to an informal dining space and family room, while a large, lower-level entertainment space includes, per listing details, a second kitchen/wet bar. Glass doors and casement windows along the rear of the main floor and open to and overlook the backyard where there’s an angled porch and a planned swimming pool.
In addition to her lucrative duties on TRHOA — she reportedly hauled in $1.5 million (or more) for the currently airing seventh season — the deliciously sassy, wickedly sarcastic and occasionally combative Miz Leakes has successfully parlayed her “Housewives” notoriety into a several recurring television roles (“Glee,” “The New Normal”), a short but raved-about stint on Broadway (“Cinderella”), appearances on a whole bunch of other reality programs (“Celebrity Apprentice,” “Dancing With the Stars”) and an eponymous line of affordably priced ladies garments she shills on the Home Shopping Network. (Think $40 faux leather leggings and $60 leopard-print knit pants.)
