Julia Roberts To Sell New York Penthouse Pied-a-Terre

SELLERS: Julia Roberts and Danny Moder
LOCATION: New York City, NY
PRICE: $4,500,000
SIZE: 2,000 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Word on the real estate street in New York City is that perennially bankable movie star Julia Roberts will soon put a Big Apple penthouse up for sale on the open market with an asking price of $4.5 million. Property records and other online resources show the publicity eschewing and pap hating Oscar winner and her husband, Emmy nominated camera operator/cinematographer Danny Moder (“The Normal Heart”), purchased the approximately 2,000-square-foot co-operative in what appears to have been an off-market deal over the summer of 2010 for $3,845,000.

Official listings have yet to hit the internets but the celebrity property gossip gal at The Post was provided a sneak peek and images show the U-shaped, two-unit combination, atop an 11-story full service, post-war building in the heart of Greenwich Village, is currently configured with three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Wood floors — they look like they might be walnut— run throughout the apartment that includes a generous 25-foot long foyer with two convenient coat closets and an especially roomy multi-purpose main living space that stretches nearly 53 feet end to end. The central living room space is anchored by a wood-burning fireplace and is flanked by a lounge/den and a dining space that all open to a 50-foot terrace with all but unobstructed views that sweep from the Empire State Building all the way down to the shimmering new One World Trade tower. The windowed kitchen has a super-graphic black and white striped floor, a two-stool snack counter and, from what we can tell, high-grade commercial-style stainless steel appliances. The larger of the two bedrooms, well separated in opposite wings for optimal privacy, each have an en suite bathroom and one of them opens to a small private terrace with sunny southern views.

This is not the first or only New York City apartment owned by the Malibu-based Roberts-Moders. Way back in 2005 they sold a large apartment in an elegant lower Fifth Avenue building for $4.1 million to fellow Oscar winner Holly Hunter — who, in turn, sold it last summer for $7.6 million — and they continue to own (at least) three apartments in a fine building in the Gramercy Park ‘hood that, per Page Six of the NY Post, is currently rented but that the couple plans to keep. In addition to her New York City holdings, the couple also maintains a multi-acre cliff-top estate in Malibu prestigious and celeb-favored Point Dume; a modestly sized if hardly inexpensive bungalow near downtown Pacific Palisades; a ranch spread in the scenic foothills of the San Cristóbal mountains north of Taos, NM; and a couple of ocean-front estates near postcard perfect Hanalei on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, one of which they put up for sale several months ago and remains available with an asking price of $29.85 million.
