YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: A late-night digital communiqué from our gal on the ground in New York City, Polly Wannacracker, let us know — and property records do indeed show — that married actors Jonny Lee Miller and Michele Hicks paid $2.105 million for an updated condominium in a small, tenement-style walk-up building on a tree-lined block just above Thompkins Square Park in the heart of the East Village neighborhood. That’s right, children, the New York City real estate market being what it is — pricey — the Miller-Hicks paid more than two million clams for a walk-up apartment in a no-frills building. Sure, a little exercise is good for the ticker, and even this oversized property gossip can schlep a couple of flights of stairs without the aid of a defibrillator. But, still, more than two million bucks to have to climb a few flights of stairs every day laden with gin bottles, candy snacks and Chinese take-out? That’s probably a tough sell for Your Mama, who is not in the market for a multimillion-dollar condo in lower Manhattan, anyways, but not, apparently, for the Miller-Hickses. At any rate…

The floor-through unit, one of just six in the turn of the 20th-century building and with monthly taxes and common charges that total a bit more than $1,400 per month according to online marketing materials, spans a decent-sized but hardly huge and undeniably rabbit warren-like 1,665 square feet with two bedrooms and two windowed bathrooms. The unusually oversized and unconventionally configured tile-floored foyer does awkward double duty as the laundry room and bends around, past the compact but windowed and efficiently equipped kitchen with custom cherry wood cabinetry and granite countertops, to an unexpectedly spacious south-facing combination living/dining room with a Siberian white oak wood floors and a quartet of tall, south-facing windows with tree-top and street views.

A long, angled and notably windowed corridor stretches back from the foyer/laundry room to the condo’s bedrooms, both of which have angled walls that gives them a certain je ne sais quoi that will surely appeal to some and depress others. Online marketing materials make a point to show the larger of the two bedrooms can be divided to create a third bedroom barely larger than a prison cell. The larger of the existing two bedrooms has a windowed walk-in closet and four north-facing windows and the other has a couple of windows that look into airshafts but neither, unfortunately, has direct access to either of the marble-floored bathrooms.

Miz Hicks is probably best known to the general public for her 1999 role in David Lynch’s “ Mulholland Drive” and her recurring role in the mid-Aughts on the celebrated TV series “The Shield,” while her lantern-jawed husband, born in the U.K. and married for a few years in the 1990s to Angelina Jolie, currently stars in the television series “Elementary” and has, according to the Internet Movie DataBase, signed on to reprise his role as Sick Boy in the upcoming Danny Boyle-directed film “Porno,” the sequel to the Oscar-nominated 1996 film “Trainspotting.”
