Idina Menzel and Aaron Lohr Score Encino Pad

BUYERS: Idina Menzel and Aaron Lohr
LOCATION: Encino, Calif.
PRICE: $2.675 million
SIZE: 4,708 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: They’ve managed to keep their romance on the down low, but property records now reveal stage and screen singers and actors Idina Menzel and Aaron Lohr have made it official with the $2.675 million joint purchase of a five bedroom and 5.5 bathroom mock-Mediterranean residence in Encino’s affluent Royal Oaks nabe. The 4,708-square-foot, two-story residence, originally built in 1959 but since updated per listing details, sits on a 0.86-acre hillside parcel with a through-the-trees canyon and city lights view over the San Fernando Valley.

An arched colonnade runs almost the full width of the front of the unassuming residence and shelters hand-carved wood doors from Peru that open to an entrance hall with high-gloss, Brazilian cherry wood floors. The shiny floors continue throughout interconnected living spaces that include a step-down living room with fireplace, an adjoining family room with glass sliders to the backyard, and a dining room with more glass sliders to a spacious loggia for outdoor dining and lounging. A small and — in our humble and utterly meaningless opinion — somewhat awkward and seemingly useless sitting area separates the dining room and the center island kitchen that’s not done up in a manner that resonates with this property gossip’s particular taste but looks nonetheless expensively outfitted with bone-toned raised panel cabinetry, flecked granite countertops and back splashes and a collection of high-quality stainless steel appliances. There’s a dedicated office, at least one guest/family bedroom and a tile-floored game room on the main floor, while the upstairs master suite offers an elevated ceiling, glass sliders to an awning shaded terrace, a practically all beige sky-lit bathroom, and an oversized walk-in closet. The back of the house opens to meandering red brick terraces ringed by mature plantings. There’s a dark-bottom free-form swimming pool and spa, and a long and narrow deck nestles into the slope below the pool.

Avid celebrity real estate watchers may recall that Miz Menzel and her ex-husband, hunky actor Taye Diggs, listed their former family home in the celeb-favored Fryman Canyon area of Studio City in July 2014 for $2.995 million and sold the nearly 5,000-square-foot contemporized 1950s traditional three months later, just before their divorce was finalized, for $2.55 million.

Mister Lohr, who appeared as a child actor in a number of Disney films and television programs such as “The Mighty Ducks” and “Newsies,” also appeared in the 2005 film adaptation of the award-winning Broadway musical “Rent.” Miz Menzel, who was also in the film adaptation of “Rent,” is probably best known to the television-watching audience for her recurring role on “Glee.” She also provided the voice for Queen Elsa in the animated movie “Frozen” and earned a Tony in 2004 for her role in the Broadway production of “Wicked.”
