Emilio Estevez Lists Malibu Micro-Vineyard…Again

SELLER: Emilio Estevez
PRICE: $6,995,000
SIZE: 3,731 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: It was a friendly PR queen at Redfin from whom we first heard word that actor/writer/director and boutique vintner Emilio Estevez has officially re-listed his micro-vineyard estate on Malibu’s celeb-popular Point Dume. This is not, by far, the first time the property’s been up for sale over the last few years and at $6,995,000 the current asking price is neither the highest nor the lowest price at which it’s been listed. The Hollywood royal — his papa is esteemed actor Martin Sheen and his older brother is the always-entertaining Charlie Sheen — once quietly floated the gated, 1.06-acre spread with an ambitious price of $9.995 million. It was later reported, however, in the fall of 2013, that the property carried a considerably lower but, alas, in hindsight still much too sanguine $7.8 million asking price. In the early months of 2014, the property popped up on the open market with an initial asking price of $6.8 million that eventually dropped to $6.4 million before it was taken off the market late last summer.

Current listing details don’t show the square footage of the single-story, circa 2008, hacienda-style abode but the L.A. County Tax Man pegs it at 3,731, a figure that may or may not be accurate. As best as we can tell, there are four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms in the main house plus another bedroom and bathroom in a separate, self-contained guesthouse alongside the brick motor court at the front of the main residence. Carved wood doors open to a narrow entrance hall that immediately steps-down to a voluminous living room with vaulted ceiling, muscular exposed wood trusses, French door access to the backyard, and a seemingly incongruous — and arguably architecturally inappropriate — carved stone mantelpiece. The neighboring formal dining room features a few stained glass windows and the adjoining kitchen certainly appears roomy enough in listing photographs, which is about all we can really say about that room without getting unnecessarily catty about the numerous nerve-wracking decorative peccadillos like those mariachi figurines that stand on either side of the sink in the stained glass greenhouse window. The kitchen steps down to a family room that overlooks the backyard and somewhere there appears to be some sort of dramatically dressed, bordello-inspired office/tasting room with an entire wall of floor-to-ceiling wine storage. Three guest/family bedrooms — listings describe them as “artfully finished” — each have private bathrooms while the master suite has a vaulted and beamed ceiling, an architectural fireplace, French doors to the backyard, two walk-in closets, and a “fabulous master bath.” In addition to a sprawling, multi-level entertainment terrace with colorfully tiled fire pit and a de riguer swimming pool and spa bordered on one side by a trellised ramada, the picturesque, Napa Valley-esque estate includes a variety of al fresco dining spots, a dozen or more raised planting beds for organic gardening, a small fruit orchard, and a picayune vineyard where Mister Estevez and his partner-wife, Sonja Magdevski, grow Pinot Noir grapes we presume they squash up for their Casa Dumetz brand of short run wines.

Property records show Mister Estevez, currently at work on “The Public” — a feature-length drama for which he’s listed in the Internet Movie Data Base as the writer, director, and producer as well as a member of the ensemble cast, purchased the estate in April 2000 for $2.2 million.
