Dr. Oz Asks Ninety Grand a Month for Palm Beach Estate

OWNER: Dr. Mehmet Oz
LOCATION: Palm Beach, FL
PRICE: $90,000 per month
SIZE: 10,546 square feet, 12 bedrooms, 12 full and 2 half bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: It was only a couple of weeks ago that physician turned occasionally controversial television personality Dr. Mehmet Oz plunked down $18 million for a fabled Palm Beach (FL) estate that he’s likkety-split put up for rent, we first learned from a kindly public relations lady at Trulia, at a seizure-inducing rate of $90,000 per month.

The ocean-front spread, known as “Louwana” and owned by the sprawling and enormously rich Wanamaker-Munn-de Heeren clan since it was built in 1923, sits on more than 1.5 acres with about 150 feet of bulk headed beach frontage. Designed by high society architect Addison Mizner and well known amongst old school Palm Beach aristocrats, the landmarked mansion grandly stands three floors above ground and measures in at a generous but by today’s nouveau riche mega-mansion standards hardly gargantuan 10,546-square-feet, according to current rental listings, with twelve bedrooms and twelve full and a two half bathrooms. (For the record, previous listings for the property pegged the manse at 11,074-square-feet with 12 bedrooms and 12 full and three half bathrooms but either way and whichever figures are most accurate it’s safe to say there’s easily room for two or three families in this one house.) The mansion is being leased fully furnished and a comparison between former listing images and current listing photographs suggest the doctor acquired the property with a fair amount of the seller’s musty-fusty looking furnishings. The main living spaces, spacious to be sure but just short of palatial, include a 36-foot long living room with exposed wood ceiling and massive antique fireplace, a 32-foot long dining room with original terra-cotta tile floor, and a den/sunroom decoratively done in a strict palate of Delft blue and white. There’s a swimming pool and cabana in a walled and landscaped courtyard at the front of the mansion along with two motor courts, a detached two-car garage topped by unspecified living space, a tennis court, and a beach-side cabana with living room, bedroom, and a couple of bathrooms/changing rooms.

Dr. Oz, a five-time Emmy winner for his popular daytime chat show, makes his home in Cliffside, NJ, where our research shows he and his wife, Lisa, own an multi-parcel bluff-top estate with a 9,153-square-foot Mediterranean-style main residence, a 4,122 square foot guesthouse next to the swimming pool, and panoramic views that sweep over the Hudson River and the New York City skyline.
