Debra Winger Lands New York City Co-op

Veteran actress Debra Winger has worked only sporadically and kept a fairly low profile since the mid-’90s when she all but retired from show business to focus on her family. However, the three-time Oscar nominee will return to television next year with a co-starring role in the Netflix original series “The Ranch” and she makes her debut in the celebrity property gossip columns with the $1.85 million purchase of a renovated apartment in a distinguished and exuberantly embellished yet still inconspicuous, turn-of-the-20th-century Beaux Arts building on New York City’s Upper West Side.

Purchased with her husband, stage and screen actor Arliss Howard, the low floor two-unit combination carries hefty monthly maintenance fees of more than $2,400, according to online marketing materials, and spans about 1,700 sq. ft. with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. A long entrance gallery links the compact foyer with the living room that features wood floors and windows on three walls. The neighboring dining room, easily converted to a third bedroom according to listing details, has inset display shelves and a bay window with courtyard overlook while the reasonably roomy kitchen has custom cabinetry, granite counter tops and stone-tiled floors. The master bedroom, with a not exactly ideal view of a brick wall, provides two closets and an unexpectedly spacious bathroom with retro-style black-and-white tile treatment, two-person soaking tub, and separate stall shower. The property was listed by Harry DiOrio of Douglas Elliman.

Winger once owned a pair of penthouse apartments in another Upper West Side building and the Winger-Howards maintained a Hudson River-fronting residence on just over an acre in Irvington, N.Y., that they bought in 1998 for $1.6 million and sold in 2011 for $2.1 million.
