TV Chef Jamie Oliver Picks Up Swank London Mansion

Word on the U.K. celebrity real estate street is that renowned chef, restaurateur and entrepreneurial media personality Jamie Oliver recently plunked down somewhere around $15 million for a historic house along a celeb-lined lane in North London’s swanky Highgate Village, where some of the other high-profile homeowners include Jude Law, George Michael, Kate Moss, and Sting and wife Trudie Styler.

The sensitively restored and carefully updated Georgian residence dates to the late 17th century, and spans about 5,700 square feet over four floors linked, per marketing materials kindly forwarded by London-based property obsessive Flower Perfectbush, by a “particularly fine staircase.” Antique floorboards and thick moldings add historic character to the main floor living spaces that include a paneled foyer, a similarly paneled dining room, and a 31-foot-long formal living room that opens to the backyard.

The sizable eat-in kitchen, which we imagine the cheeky chef will overhaul to exacting specifications, is located in the basement, and joined by a study, family room and walk-in wine cellar. There are seven principal bedrooms and three full and two half bathrooms, plus a three-story attached guest/staff cottage with an additional bedroom, bathroom and full kitchen. The two-tiered backyard encompasses a stone terrace with koi pond and fountain and — a boon for the chef — a large greenhouse and a variety of vegetable plots.

Oliver, who has sold nearly 40 million cookbooks, and presides over a fortune estimated at nearly a quarter-billion dollars, also owns a four-floor terrace house in nearby Primrose Hill — a combination of two side-by-side residences — as well as Thurrocks Manor, a 16th-century country house 40-some miles north of London near his hometown of Clavering.
