SoundCloud added support for Google Cast to its Android app this week, allowing users of the app to send any audio stream from their mobile device to a Chromecast streaming stick, Android TV or any Internet-connected loudspeaker with Google Cast support.

SoundCloud had been one of the few hold-outs in the music space without cast support; in the end, Chromecast’s success may have sealed the deal: Google has sold more than 17 million Chromecast streaming sticks to date, and the company has been striking partnerships with consumer electronics manufacturers like Sony and LG to add casting to their connected loudspeakers.

Adding support for Google Cast could allow SoundCloud to become a bigger force in the living room, and compete more directly with other streaming services as consumers embrace music playback on connected devices. A recent study suggested that more than 50% of all music listening is happening in the home, and consumers are increasingly turning their TV into the best stereo system in their house.
