Coming as something of a surprise, the first episode of the second season of insanely popular podcast “Serial” became available Thursday morning.
The second season launched on “Serial’s” website and on Pandora. Although it was never officially confirmed prior to release, the rumors of the new season being about the case of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl were correct.
“Our first season was about a murder case few people had heard about. Season two is a story a gazillion people have heard about: the story of Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. soldier who walked off his post in Afghanistan in 2009 and was captured and held by the Taliban for nearly five years,” host Sarah Koenig said on the “Serial” website. “It’s been in the newspapers and on TV; it’s been the subject of congressional investigations (in fact, this very day, the House Armed Services Committee is releasing a report on the Bergdahl trade) — and it’s an active case in military court.”
New episodes of the podcast will bow on Thursdays through the “Serial” website as well as on Pandora. “Serial” season one began streaming on Pandora just over two weeks ago.

“In the past two weeks, our listeners have already shown how addicting season one can be, and we have been eagerly awaiting the launch of season two,” said Brian McAndrews, CEO of Pandora. “This is a perfect partnership – we are bringing something to our listeners that they love, while exposing Serial to a new audience.”
