Hulu will launch the entire run of classic ’90s sitcom “Seinfeld” — spanning 180 episodes over nine seasons in all — on June 24 under its recently announced exclusive pact with Sony Pictures Television.
The deal for the show is worth about $875,000 an episode, which translates to nearly $160 million in all, Variety reported last month. “Seinfeld” will be available only to subscribers of Hulu’s premium service, priced at $7.99 per month.
Hulu picked up the show, definitively a hot property in the subscription VOD arena, as part of the Internet TV service’s efforts to build on its approximately 9 million base of paying customers. Hulu’s deal involves Sony TV along with Time Warner’s Castle Rock and “Seinfeld” profit participants, including star/co-creator Jerry Seinfeld and co-creator Larry David.
