Rolling Stone Hires Josh Swade, Former ESPN Producer, as Head of Video

Rolling Stone is planning to dramatically beef up its video offerings with the hiring of Josh Swade as exec producer of film and video.

Swade, who starts at the mag May 26, most recently was senior producer at MaggieVision Prods. In that role, Swade served as a producer on ESPN’s “The ESPYs” and “NFL Honors” awards shows; he also directed and produced films in ESPN’s “30 for 30” series.

“We are thrilled to welcome Josh to the team and know his creative vision will further enhance Rolling Stone’s strong push into video,” said Gus Wenner, Wenner Media’s head of digital. “After tremendous development and growth online, we are heavily investing in digital video to continue to bring our iconic storytelling to every platform.”

Swade will head Rolling Stone’s team of about 10 recently hired employees. The publication’s website in March 2015 attracted 15.2 million unique monthly users worldwide, per comScore; in the first quarter of 2015, RollingStone.com’s traffic increased nearly 75% versus to the year-earlier period, according to the research firm. Last fall, the site launched Rolling Stone Films with the debut of “Rick Was Here,” a documentary episode featuring iconic producer Rick Rubin.
