Lionsgate, Tribeca Tap Jeff Bronikowski to Head Film Subscription-VOD Service

Lionsgate and Tribeca Enterprises have hired digital-media vet Jeff Bronikowski as president of Tribeca Shortlist, a subscription video-on-demand service aimed at film buffs.

Bronikowski most recently was COO of IAC’s DailyBurn subscription-based streaming fitness service. He previously spent 12 years at Universal Music Group, leading digital content strategy as SVP of business development. Bronikowski also has held senior management positions at Yahoo and AOL Entertainment, and headed strategy and development at the Echo Nest, a music-data platform Spotify acquired in 2014. He’s also worked at HBO and Arthur Andersen.

Originally, the companies planned to launch Tribeca Shortlist in the first half of 2015, but it’s now slated to bow this fall. They haven’t revealed pricing or what specific content will be available via the SVOD service, but it will be narrowly targeted at film aficionados in contrast to general-interest entertainment services from the likes of Netflix or Hulu.

“We have a great partner and a world-class brand and, with Jeff’s appointment, we’re assembling a management team with the expertise to capitalize on Tribeca Shortlist’s unique strengths,” said Jim Packer, Lionsgate president of worldwide television and digital distribution.

Tribeca Shortlist will include a “highly curated selection” of critically acclaimed films from around the world, including titles from Lionsgate, Tribeca and other movie studios, per the companies. In addition, the service will feature original content, including exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from indie films and commentary from creators about films on their respective shortlists.
