Instagram just got lucky: The Facebook-owned social photo sharing service has hired former Lucky editor Eva Chen as its new head of fashion partnerships. Chen announced the career move herself on Instagram, saying that she was “beyond excited” about joining Instagram.

At Instagram, Chen will be tasked with working with designers and stylists to find ” new ways to tell fashion stories,” she told Mashable. Her role isn’t being described as editorial, but instead focused on partnerships with the fashion industry.

Hiring Chen, who herself has 393,000 followers on Instagram, is an interesting move for Facebook as it is looking to continue Instagram’s growth, and increase monetization of the photo sharing platform.

Instagram currently has 300 million monthly active users, according to Facebook, which is up from 200 million in early 2014. In June, Instagram announced that it is getting ready to open up its advertising platform to all Facebook advertisers over the coming months.

Chen became Lucky’s editor in 2013, and was at the time the youngest editor in the magazine’s history. She left Lucky in June, just after the magazine had announced to reduce its print frequency from monthly to quarterly.
