The Golden State Warriors are going virtual: The NBA’s season opening game of the defending champions against the New Orleans Pelicans will be live streamed in virtual reality (VR) Tuesday night, thanks to a cooperation between TNT and VR live streaming startup NextVR.
The VR live stream is scheduled to start at 7:30pm PT Tuesday. It will feature the game itself as well as the traditional ring ceremony, during which the Warriors will receive their championship rings. The VR live stream will be accessible to anyone who owns one of Samsung’s GearVR headsets. Detailed instructions can be found on NextVR’s website.
This isn’t the first time Turner has experimented with VR live streaming. Last month, NextVR helped CNN to live stream the Democratic Debate in VR — to the delight of Stephen Colbert, who used the event to poke fun at both at the technology and the Democrat’s presidential contenders.
