UPDATED: Dave Goldberg, CEO of SurveyMonkey and husband of Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, died suddenly Friday night, his brother Robert Goldberg announced on Facebook on Saturday. He was 47.

“It’s with incredible shock and sadness that I’m letting our friends and family know that my amazing brother, Dave Goldberg, beloved husband of Sheryl Sandberg, father of two wonderful children, and son of Paula Goldberg, passed away suddenly last night,” his brother wrote.

According to the New York Times, Goldberg was on vacation with family and friends at a resort close to Puerto Vallarta in southwest Mexico. A spokesman for the persecutor’s office in Jalisco State told the Times that the executive collapsed while exercising, dying of head trauma and blood loss. Robert Goldberg reportedly found him on the floor of the gym at about 4 p.m. on Friday. The spokesman said Dave Goldberg “fell off the treadmill and cracked his head open.”

A cause of the collapse as still not been revealed.

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to the social-media network shortly after Robert Goldberg made the announcement to share his condolences.

“Dave Goldberg was an amazing person and I am glad I got to know him,” Zuckerberg wrote. “My thoughts and prayers are with Sheryl and her family.”

A Facebook spokesperson said in a statement, “We are heartbroken by this news.”

Dave Goldberg joined SurveyMonkey in April 2009. In 1994, the Silicon Valley entrepreneur founded Launch Media Inc., which delivered music and music-related content online. He led the company through its acquisition by Yahoo in 2001.

Following the sale, he served as vice president and general manager of Yahoo Music. From 2007 until April 2009, Goldberg was a entrepreneur in residence with Benchmark Capital.

He met Sandberg in 1996, and they married in April 2004. The couple had two children — a son and a daughter — together.

In lieu of donations, the family requests that friends share memories and photos of Goldberg on his Facebook page.
