Dave Dickman, Ex-Disney and Apple Ad Exec, Joins Social-Marketing Startup Reelio

Social-marketing agency startup Reelio has hired ad-industry vet Dave Dickman as president.

Dickman, who began working with Reelio as an adviser last year, previously ran global sales for Apple iAd, the tech giant’s digital-advertising platform for mobile in-app advertising and Apple Music. Prior to Apple, Dickman was senior VP of digital media sales and marketing for Disney Interactive and held senior positions at Warner Bros. Digital Media and Yahoo.

As president of Reelio, Dickman will oversee the company’s business and sales operations, including its West Coast expansion. He will be based out of Reelio’s newly opened Santa Monica office and report to co-founder and CEO Pete Borum.

Dickman’s decision to join the company “serves as tremendous validation that the advertising and entertainment industries are undergoing a fundamental transformation and that Reelio is well-positioned to capitalize on that opportunity,” Borum said in a statement.

Reelio recently announced $5 million in Series A funding, bringing total raised to $8 million, from investors including e.ventures; the venture-capital firms of Philipp Schindler, Lorne Michaels, Tremor Video founders Jason Glickman and Andrew Reis, former Sony Music president and Bertelsmann executive board member Thomas Hesse; and senior executives from Apple, Google, Goldman Sachs and BBDO.

New York-based Reelio, founded in 2012, maintains a roster of about 10,000 social-media talent and seeks to cut deals for them to work with brands, agencies and publishers build. Clients have included Clinique, Unilever and Visa.

“Reelio has made incredible strides building a unique technology platform and offering tools for its incredible roster of advertising and brand partners looking to connect with today’s digital influencers,” Dickman said in a statement provided by the company.
