Condé Nast Names Joy Marcus, Former Head of Dailymotion, General Manager of Digital Video

Condé Nast Entertainment has hired Joy Marcus, who previously ran the U.S. operations for video site Dailymotion, as exec VP and g.m. of digital video.

Marcus will oversee CNÉ’s digital video business including distribution, business development, technology and product development, revenue operations and marketing. Her appointment is effective May 18. She reports to Condé Nast Entertainment president Dawn Ostroff.

“From launching and building Dailymotion’s North American operations to her recent work at Bloglovin’, Joy has spent her career building and scaling successful digital businesses and is joining us at just the right moment to take our premium digital video business to the next level,” said Ostroff. “Joy is a great manager and extremely well respected in our community, and I’m looking forward to working with her on the expansion of our business.”

Marcus most recently was CEO of Bloglovin’ and a venture partner at Gotham Ventures, where she led the firm’s investment in DailyWorth, a digital media company aimed at professional women. Before that, Marcus was the U.S. general manager for Dailymotion, from its launch through its acquisition by France Telcom’s Orange.

In addition, Marcus has held senior executive positions at AOL and Barnes & Noble, as well as Viacom’s MTV Networks, where she worked on MTV channel launches in Russia and South Africa.

CNÉ’s digital video network includes 18 brand channels plus the Scene, a video-aggregation site with multiple partners. (Disclosure: Variety is a partner in the Scene.) The Scene features over 40 channels of programming ranging from entertainment and music to sports and comedy from the publisher’s brands including Glamour, GQ, Vogue, Wired and Vanity Fair and the New Yorker along with content partners including Red Bull, Warner Music, the Onion, IAC’s CollegeHumor, ABC News and BuzzFeed.
