UPDATE: Caleb Logan Bratayley died of an diagnosed heart condition, his family announced on Instagram Nov. 10. He died of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the family said, and it went unnoticed for years because he never showed any symptoms.
“Caleb’s death has raised many questions about how and why this could happen to a seemingly healthy boy,” the family said in a statement on Instagram Monday. “Sadly, tests have confirmed today that Caleb passed away from an undetected medical condition.” The family did not reveal the nature of his malady.
Police in Anne Arundel County, Md., responded to an emergency call last Thursday at the home of the family (which has not publicized their actual surname). Caleb was pronounced dead that evening; officials said they did not suspect foul play.
The family’s mother, Katie, previously said in an Instagram post that Caleb had died of “natural causes.”
The Bratayleys reality series — featuring Caleb and his two younger sisters, Annie and Hayley — is affiliated with Disney’s Maker Studios. The YouTube channel, which launched in December 2010, has 1.7 million subscribers.
