Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the year’s No. 2 movie in terms of domestic box office, remained in the top spot on both national home video sales charts for the second consecutive week.
The superhero sequel, distributed on disc by Walt Disney Studios, debuted at No. 1 a week earlier even though it had only been in stores for three days, less than half the usual tracking period.
For the week ended Oct. 11, the film remained at No. 1 on both the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks overall disc sales, and Nielsen’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart.
The top new release was Warner’s “Magic Mike XXL,” the sequel to 2012’s “Magic Mike,” in which Channing Tatum reprises his role as a hot young stripper with a special way with the ladies. The comedy debuted at No. 2 on both charts, although it only sold about 29% as many copies as “Age of Ultron,” Nielsen data shows.
Another new release, Sony Pictures’ “Insidious: Chapter 3,” bowed at No. 6 on the overall disc sales chart. The third installment in the horror franchise, a prequel to the first film, earned $52.2 million in theaters, in line with the 2010 original but more than $30 million less than the second film in the series.

The fourth season in the popular “American Horror Story” franchise, “Freak Show,” debuted at No. 11 – a low debut observers attribute to the fact that the entire season also became available on Netflix the same day it was released on disc.
Universal Pictures’ “Furious 7” rose a notch to No. 3 on the overall disc sales charts, while 20th Century Fox’s “Spy” finished at No. 4 after debuting at No. 2 the previous week. Rounding out the top five was Universal Pictures’ “Pitch Perfect 2,” down from No. 3 the previous week.
On the Blu-ray Disc chart, “Furious 7” also finished the week at No. 3, down from No. 2 the prior week, while “Pitch Perfect 2” and “Spy” each slipped a notch to No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
In its second week of availability, “Age of Ultron” generated 62% of its total unit sales from Blu-ray Disc, down from 63% in week one. “Magic Mike XXL” only generated 27% of its total unit sales from Blu-ray Disc.
Rounding out the top five were Warner’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” at No. 3, Disney’s “Cinderella” at No. 4 and Lionsgate’s “The Age of Adaline” at No. 5.
