Walk of Fame: Ray Dolby’s Legacy Lives On In Dolby Labs’ Approach

Ray Dolby’s collaborative approach continues to fuel the company that bears his name.

It’s something that Dolby president and CEO Kevin Yeaman remembers well.

“Ray would frequently say to me, ‘You know, Kevin, you’re not going to be the one that comes up with all the great ideas. Great ideas can come from anywhere,’” Yeaman says. “That’s the type of organization that we believe we are and we’ll continue to aspire to be.”

Today, Dolby Labs is broadening its interests from sound to sight.

“Imaging is an area within entertainment that we are now focused on and we think poised to have a very big impact with Dolby Cinema and Dolby Vision,” Yeaman says.

Sharp and TCL are building Dolby Vision TVs. Amazon, Netflix, Vudu and Xbox Video will be providing Dolby Vision content.

The first Dolby Cinema — featuring Dolby Atmos immersive sound and high-dynamic-range pictures in a specially designed and tuned room — opened in December in the Netherlands.
