Sally Field, Stephen King Among National Medal of Arts Recipients

Sally Field and Stephen King will be among the recipients of the National Medal of Arts, to be presented at the White House by President Obama next Thursday, Sept. 10.

Other recipients include visual artist John Baldessari, theater director and choreographer Ping Chong, actress Miriam Colon, the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, visual artist Ann Hamilton, composer and singer Meredith Monk, tenor George Shirley, the University Musical Society, and author and educator Tobias Wolff.

Obama also will present the National Humanities Medal to recipients including chef and author Alice Waters, novelist and screenwriter Larry McMurtry, novelist and philosopher Rebecca Newberger Goldstein, and author Jhumpa Lahiri.
