Rupert Murdoch earned $5.1 million last year in his role as chairman of News Corp., a drop of more than 40% from his 2013 paycheck.
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, News Corp. disclosed Tuesday that Murdoch earned $1 million in salary for the company’s fiscal 2014 year, which ended June 30, and another $4.1 million in stock awards and bonuses. In fiscal 2013, Murdoch pulled in $8.7 million from News Corp., the home of his newspaper and publishing assets.
News Corp. CEO Robert Thomson also took a pay cut, with a total of $10.3 million in compensation for 2014, down from $12.5 million in 2013.
Murdoch earned $29.2 million in fiscal 2014 for his role as chairman-CEO of 21st Century Fox, the media and entertainment arm of his empire.
The News Corp. filing also revealed that Lachlan Murdoch and James Murdoch, who were elevated to co-chairman and CEO, respectively, at 21st Century Fox in July, earned $225,000 apiece for serving as board members of News Corp.
