The third installment of Variety and PBS SoCal’s awards season series “Variety Studio: Actors on Actors” will begin airing Dec. 27.

The new season of the series will feature conversations between thespians from this year’s biggest awards contenders. The discussions will pan out over three episodes.

The first episode, airing Dec. 27, features Cate Blanchett (“Carol” and “Truth”) and Ian McKellen (“Mr. Holmes),” Will Smith (“Concussion”) and Benicio Del Toro (“Sicario”), Michael Keaton (“Spotlight”) and Samuel L. Jackson (“The Hateful Eight”) and Brie Larson (“Room”) and Joel Edgerton (“Black Mass”).

Episode two, also airing Dec. 27, will feature Saoirse Ronan (“Brooklyn”) with Kate Winslet (“Steve Jobs”), Steve Carell (“The Big Short”) and Rooney Mara (“Carol”), Bryan Cranston (“Trumbo”) and Jason Segel (“The End of the Tour”) and Elizabeth Banks (“Love & Mercy”) and Carey Mulligan (“Suffragette”).

The third episode, airing Jan. 3, will include conversations between Amy Schumer (“Trainwreck”) and Lily Tomlin (“Grandma”), Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years”) and Isabella Rossellini (“Joy”), Jennifer Jason Leigh (“The Hateful Eight”) and Seth Rogen (“Steve Jobs”) and Paul Dano (“Love & Mercy”) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (“The Walk”).

In addition to PBS SoCal, the series will also air in New York on WNET/WLIW and be distributed to PBS stations around the country in January.

PBS SoCal recently won a Los Angeles-area Emmy for a special episode of “Variety Studio: Actors on Actors,” which aired last December.
