Marvel Ups Victoria Alonso to Head of Physical Production (EXCLUSIVE)

Marvel Studios has promoted its longtime visual effects chief, Victoria Alonso, to executive vice president, physical production.

Alonso had been executive producer and executive VP of vfx for the studio. In her expanded role, she will oversee all physical production, post-production and production technical operations for Marvel. She becomes one of the few women to ever hold a position has phyiscal production chief at a studio

David Grant and Mitch Bell, who are both VPs of physical production, had been sharing duties as Marvel’s co-heads of physical production.

Alonso has been a vocal advocate for women in the visual effects industry. The 49-year-old Buenos Aires native began her career in visual effects, including a four-year stint at Digtial Domain. She served as a visual effects producer on around a half-dozen films, including Ridley Scott’s “Kingdom of Heaven,” before she joined Marvel.

She was co-producer on Marvel’s phase I pictures, then moved up to executive producer on “The Avengers” and has had that title on all Marvel pictures since. She was invited to become a member-at-large of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences in 2013.

At Marvel she is known for finding creative ways to control vfx costs and for building a global vfx pipeline for the company.
