Digital Domain has tapped O.D. Welch as president, the visual effects studio announced Monday.
Welch will head day to day operations for Digital Domain’s Playa Vista and Vancouver locations.
With over three decades of experience, Welch has served executive roles at CafeFX, Cameron Pace Group, Prime Focus Limited and 525 Studios, among others.
DD has been resurgent since emerging from bankruptcy, having been acquired by Hong Kong-based parent company (since renamed Digital Domain Holdings) and placed under the leadership of chairman-CEO Daniel Seah. Digital Domain 3.0, as the current incarnation of the visual effects studio likes to be called, has credits including “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “Maleficent.” The studio has recently pushed into the VR space, including a partnership with virtual reality tech provider Immersive Media.
Reliance Mediaworks, a subsidiary of India-based Reliance Group, holds 30% of Digital Domain stock.
