NBC’s “Working the Engels” has been canceled, Variety has confirmed. The co-produced Canadian comedy hailed from Shaw Media and Halfire-CORE Entertainment, and aired on Global TV in Canada, where it had already been axed due to poor ratings.

Katie and Jane Ford created and scripted the series, which centered on a family forced to band together to keep themselves afloat after the patriarch and breadwinner passed away, leaving them buried in debts. Andrea Martin and Kacey Rohl starred in the shortlived laffer.

The show premiered to 2.8 million viewers on July 10, but that number dwindled in subsequent airings. On Aug. 19, the show was pulled from NBC’s schedule and replaced with original episodes of Greg Poehler comedy “Welcome to Sweden,” which has been renewed for a second season.
