TruTV is putting pedal to the metal with its original program development.
The Turner cabler has renewed three series — “The Carbonaro Effect,” “Fake Off” and “Friends of the People” — and given greenlights to two others: “Kings of Cue” and “Santas in the Barn.”
“Building on the success and momentum of recent premieres, we are continuing to take big swings in new spaces with original series that are innovative, surprising and irresistibly shareable,” said TruTV prexy Chris Linn.
“Cue,” about cutthroat pool players, has a 10-episode order and hails from Pilgrim Studios. “Santas” is described as holiday-themed and incorporating Christmas tradition. It’s from Half Yard Prods.
“Carbonaro Effect,” centering on magician Michael Carbornaro, is renewed for 13 half-hours and scheduled to return next summer. Shine America’s “Fake Off” is renewed for eight episodes starting in the spring. Sketch comedy “Friends of the People” has had its order extended by 10 episodes.
Among other projects in the works at TruTV are the scripted high-school comedy “Those Who Can’t” and a behind-the-scenes special tied to the comedy tour mounted by the stars of the cabler’s “Impractical Jokers” series. The special is slated to air March 26.
