HBO plans to pull  a deleted scene from its hit series “True Detective” that made waves with its rabid fan base Wednesday.

Sources indicate that a miscommunication at the premium channel prompted its home-video division to release the content without authorization. An HBO spokesman declined comment.

The clip was not a necessarily a plot spoiler of the popular drama and seemed to serve merely to tell the story of how Matthew McConaughey’s Rust Cohle ended things with his girlfriend Laurie (“Twilight’s” Elizabeth Reaser).

The scene showed that Rust wasn’t just cryptic with his police detective partner Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson), and that this breakup came about as Rust and Laurie fought about “philosophies,” and how they prevent him from having children not only with her, but with anyone. In what ultimately ends with them dissolving their relationship, the nearly three-minute-long clip showed Cohle remaining steadfast in his ways even though Laurie, a doctor, tries to help him see having children as a means of “healing”.
