‘The Big C: Hereafter,’ ‘The Fosters,’ ‘Vice’ Among Television Academy Honorees

The Television Academy announced Wednesday its honorees for the seventh annual Television Academy Honors, recognizing programs that use TV to bring awareness to important social issues.

The honorees were chosen by the Television Academy Honors Selection Committee, chaired by Lucia Gervino. This year’s selection represents broadcast TV, basic cable, premium cable and online programming and features topics including cancer, post-traumatic stress disorder,  the foster care system, clerical sex abuse and alcoholism.

“The programs being honored this year are some of the most emotionally moving and socially powerful programs on television,” Television Academy chairman and CEO Bruce Rosenblum said in a statement.  “As our industry evolves, it is exciting to see this type of smart and empowering content presented across such a wide variety of distribution platforms.”

Actress Dana Delany will return to host the newly formatted event for the sixth time. The honored programs will be celebrated beginning the week of May 25 through daily content on the  Academy’s digital platforms as well as Yahoo TV. The recipients will be officially recognized at at an outdoor cocktail reception on the garden terrace of the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills on June 1.

In previous years, honorees were recognized at dinner awards presentation ceremony in early May at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
