Syfy is going back to its longform, scripted roots after giving the greenlight to its new six-hour series, “Ascension.”

The intergalactic mystery focuses on a covert space mission that sent hundreds of men, women and children on a voyage aboard the starship Ascension to populate a new world. After someone murders a young woman, the ship’s inhabitants start to question the true purpose of their century-long journey.

Philip Levens (“Smallville”) created and wrote the 6-hour event series. He will also serve as exec producer and showrunner. “Ascension” will be produced in Montreal, QC by Sea To Sky Studios in association with Blumhouse Productions.

The show is set to launch in November 2014 and air through December.
