‘Superman Returns’ Star Brandon Routh Joins CW’s ‘Arrow’

“Superman Returns” star Brandon Routh is taking flight again — this time in The CW’s comic-book drama “Arrow.”

Routh is set to play the recurring role of Ray Palmer, also known as The Atom, in the show’s third season. His character is a scientist and inventor that will have an unexpected yet mysterious role in the lives of Oliver and Felicity.

In the DC Comics, The Atom can shrink down to subatomic size. Routh’s appearance on the show will mark the first time the character will appear in a live-action series.

Many fans got a taste of Routh as a superhero when he played the Man of Steel in 2006’s “Superman Returns.” He also appeared on network TV in NBC’s “Chuck” and CBS’ “Partners.” Most recently, he had a guest role on Fox’s “Enlisted.”

Routh is the latest star joining the “Arrow” cast in season three: Devon Aoki will playing Tatsu Yamashiro, AKA martial arts expert Katana; Karl Yune will appear as Tatsu’s husband, Maseo Yamashiro; and Peter Stormare will inherit the mantle of Count Vertigo after the Arrow killed the previous purveyor of the dangerous drug. The show returns Oct. 8 on The CW.

Variety’s sister site TVLine first broke the news.

'Black Monday': How Showtime Dusted Off An Old '80s Logo For Its New Comedy

Cocaine’s a hell of a drug, but you’re not seeing things: That, indeed is Showtime’s old 1980s-era logo pasted all over marketing materials and promos for “Black Monday,” a tongue-in-cheek tale of the excesses exhibited by Wall Street traders in the lead-up to the stock market crash of 1987. The logo, which hasn’t been in [...]

    TV Review: 'Russian Doll'

This is a particularly tricky review to write, but not because the merits of “Russian Doll” are at all ambiguous. On the contrary, the show is so striking and smart that I made a note to include it on my favorite TV shows of 2019 immediately after blowing through the season — which is saying [...]

    TV Review: 'Black Earth Rising'

Bringing to bear a talented cast on a story of real geopolitical significance, “Black Earth Rising,” Netflix’s drama about the long-tail aftermath of the Rwandan genocide, would seem to have had the potential to be one of 2019’s early television successes. Which makes its falling short all the more painful and pronounced. The show, previously [...]
