Though the information had been out there since October, neither NBC nor the NFL had officially confirmed that Katy Perry would be the halftime headliner for Super Bowl XLIX. However, the announcement finally came on Sunday, confirming that Perry would follow in the footsteps of Beyonce, Madonna and other pop stars who played at the TV juggernaut.

Perry announced the news via her Twitter on Sunday, tweeting from Australia on her Prismatic World Tour. Meanwhile, during halftime of “Sunday Night Football’s” Cowboys-Giants game, Bob Costas told the audience the news.

The announcements were followed by the release of a video featuring Perry and produced by Pepsi, which sponsors the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Super Bowl XLIX takes place Feb. 1, 2015.
