Stephen Root Joins AMC’s Revolutionary War Drama ‘Turn’

Root will play a civilian member of a proto-CIA group

Character actor Stephen Root has joined the cast of AMC’s upcoming Revolutionary War drama “Turn.”

The series from creator and exec producer Craig Silverstein tells the untold tale of America’s first spy network, the Culper Ring. It follows a group of childhood friends (including star, Jamie Bell) who become George Washington’s secret weapon to winning the war.

Root, who appeared in “Justified,” “Boardwalk Empire” and “Pushing Daisies,” but is best known for his comedic work (he was Milton in “Office Space”), will play Nathaniel Sackett. Sackett is a member of the Committee to Detect and Defeat Conspiracies — the 18th century proto-CIA — who helps establish the first American spy ring.

Turn,” which is based on Alexander Rose’s book “Washington’s Spies,” premieres on April 6.
