“Oil” is set against the backdrop of the rivalries and intrigue in the expat community living in the Persian Gulf in the 1970s. The concept hails from British writer Alan Whiting (“Wire in the Blood”) who will co-produce and pen the script with Matthew Faulk and Mark Skeet (“Jason and the Argonauts”).

Ellender, former head of FremantleMedia, launched L.A.-based Slingshot earlier this year to produce and distribute TV projects through international financing and pre-sales. Nevision is an investment firm that aims to play matchmaker between creatives and financing and distribution partners. Nevision’s James Cabourne and Neil Zeiger will exec produce “Oil,” with Slingshot handling distribution.
