After two years with OWN, Rita Mullin is leaving her post as head of development to become g.m. of Science Channel as of June 2.

Mullin is an 18-year Discovery veteran who was sent to OWN in 2012 as the channel was struggling to find its footing with original programming. Mullin helped spearhead unscripted series “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s” and “Deion’s Family Playbook” for OWN.

Mullin’s role as exec VP of programming and development at OWN will not be filled; her duties will be taken on by OWN co-presidens Sheri Salata and Erik Logan.

At Science, Mullin succeeds Debbie Adler Myers, who is leaving after six years with the cabler.

Mullin’s move to Science is part of broader exec changes made by Eileen O’Neill, who was recently upped to a group prexy post overseeing the Discovery, Science and Velocity channels.

“Rita has a passion for storytelling that is the core to the Science Channel audience,” O’Neill said. “With nearly 20 years of non-fiction television experience, she has an innate curiosity that will drive the Science Channel to the next level.”
