NBCU’s Syfy Developing Two Unscripted Series About Survival

NBCUniversal’s SyFy unveiled an unscripted development slate that relies heavily on game shows, docuseries and two odd concepts about people trying to survive  a fictional wreckage in a remote location or in an isolated place with only a strange member of the opposite sex for comfort.

The network announced the docket as part of its positioning in advance of the opening of TV’s “upfront” market, when the major U.S. TV networks try to sell the bulk of their ad inventory for the coming season.

The two survival series are:

Alive and Alone: In each episode, the “lone survivor” of a remote disaster must use wits, along with whatever can be carried from the wreckage, to make it out alive over the course of nine days. The survivor will self-document the journey while also wearing the latest in biofeedback technology which will capture how the mind and body cope. Production Company: BASE Productions. Executive Producers: John Brenkus, Mickey Stern.

Adam + Eve: Three  couples — all meeting one another for the first time —  experience isolation in separate remote locations over the course of 90 days without any other human contact. Production Company: Studio Lambert/All3Media America. Executive producers: Stephen Lambert, Greg Goldman, Eli Holzman.

Other unscripted shows in development include:

Geeks Who Drink:  Three quizmasters challenge teams in a live geek trivia battle. Production Company: Condé Nast Entertainment , Kinetic Content. Executive Producers: Chris Coelen, Dawn Ostroff, Joe LaBracio, Emma Conway. Supervising Producer: John Dicker.

Billion Dollar Club:  Series follows two of the world’s most aggressive accelerator programs: the software concentrated, 500 Startups, led by the relentless drill sergeant Dave McClure; and the hardware focused, Highway 1, headed by quirky genius Brady Forrest. Produced by Zero Point Zero Production, Inc. Executive producers: Lydia Tenaglia, Christopher Collins.

The End is Near: Anthology docuseries profiles fascinating men and women who  believe humanity is on the verge of a sci-fi-like apocalyptic scenario.  Production Company: Hot Snakes Media. Executive Producers: Eric Evangelista, Shannon Evangelista.

Fantasy Makers :  Docuseries following the loud, energetic and colorful cast of characters who own and operate one of New York City’s premiere haunted attractions, Blood ManorProduction Company: Vidiots. Executive Producers: Michael Amoia, Anthony Amoia.
