NBC Developing the Beatles Event Series

John, Paul, George and Ringo might have made their American debut on CBS’ “The Ed Sullivan Show,” but that doesn’t mean they can’t play for the Peacock too.

NBC is in the early stages of developing an eight-part event series based around the Fab Four that is to be written by “The Tudors” creator/exec producer Michael Hirst and exec produced by Ben Silverman and Teri Weinberg. All worked with NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt while he was at Showtime.

This deal is in line with NBC’s current focus on event series, such as its recent “Rosemary’s Baby” miniseries and last winter’s “The Sound of Music: Live!” — a strategy Greenblatt touched upon in last month’s Variety cover story.

Variety sister site Deadline Hollywood first broke the news of the event series.
