Bestselling crime novelist Patricia Cornwell is diving into TV, writing an original drama pilot for CBS through ABC Studios.
The untitled Cornwell project revolves around an unorthodox female police detective in San Diego who is haunted by demons from her past.
Cornwell has been paired with seasoned showrunners Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts, who are helping her shape the concept into a TV series. The trio are exec producing.
Cornwell made a splash with her first novel, “Postmortem,” in 1990, written while she was working in the medical examiner’s office in Richmond, Va. She’s best known for the series of novels focusing on the Kay Scarpetta medical examiner character. In total, Cornwell’s books have sold more than 100 million copies.
Several of Cornwell’s novels have been adapted for telepics. But the CBS/ABC Studios project marks her first original effort for TV. She was paired with Berg and Harberts through their mutual reps at ICM Partners.
