Actor Michael Jace, who appeared in the FX cop drama “The Shield,” has entered a not guilty plea in the murder of his wife.

Jace’s plea comes nearly one month after he was charged with murder following the May 19 shooting death of his wife, April Jace, in the Hyde Park area of Los Angeles. April Jace, a financial-aid counselor at Biola University, was found dead inside the couple’s home after the actor called 911. Jace was arrested May 19 and formally charged on May 22.

The judge set Jace’s bail at $2 million and ordered the 51-year-old thesp to have no contact with his two young sons Caleb, 5, and Nehemiah, 8. A preliminary hearing has been set for Aug. 1.

According to Deputy Chief Coroner Ed Winter, the L.A. County coroner ruled the death a homicide after preliminary autopsy results confirmed that 40-year-old April Jace died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Jace could face a sentence of 50 years to life in prison if convicted.
