Lifetime has given the greenlight to miniseries “The Red Tent” starring Rebecca Ferguson, Minnie Driver, Morena Baccarin and Debra Winger.

The four-hour project is based on the novel by Anita Diamant. Set in Biblical times, “Red Tent” tells the story of several generations of women. Ferguson (pictured), star of last year’s Starz/BBC miniseries “The White Queen,” plays the central character of Dinah, who recounts her youth growing up in a tent where femmes shared their trials and tribulations.

“Red Tent” is set to air over two nights later this year. Paula Weinstein is exec producing for Sony Pictures TV. Roger Young will direct from a script by Elizabeth Chandler and Anne Meredith. Iain Glen and Will Tudor also star.

“The Red Tent’ brings premium and popular elements to a unique and timeless story,” said Rob Sharenow, exec VP and g.m. of Lifetime. “It perfectly articulates our vision for Lifetime as the destination for epic movie events.”

Production is slated to begin this month in Morocco.

Lifetime will announce the order for “Red Tent” today as part of its upfront presentation to advertisers in Gotham.
